Announcement: The Guarini Institute Welcomes Francine A'ness, Ph.D.

Francine A’ness has joined the Guarini Institute as Assistant Research Professor and Associate Director!

I am pleased to announce that Francine A’ness, Ph.D. has joined the Frank J. Guarini Institute for International Education as Assistant Research Professor and Associate Director. Francine’s role at the Institute will be split between administrative and teaching duties. As Associate Director, Francine will play a leadership role in furthering the Institute’s initiatives in the areas of: program design and evaluation; curriculum development (specializing in pedagogy on study abroad programs as well as student experiences); and student support and case management. As an Assistant Research Professor at the Institute, Francine will be designing and delivering an innovative and optional re-entry class for students returning from studying abroad and convening professional development opportunities for faculty.
The creation of this new position has been designed to further advance Dartmouth’s commitment to applying the institution’s high standards of good practice for education abroad.
Francine came to Dartmouth from the University of California, Berkeley in 1999. She most recently served as an Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Students providing holistic support for students and helping them navigate College resources, deadlines, policies, and procedures. Prior to her work in the Undergraduate Deans Office, Francine taught in the Spanish and Portuguese Department during which time she led many Language Study Abroad programs to Spain and Mexico. Francine regularly teaches for the Women’s and Gender and Sexuality Studies Program (WGSS), Latin American, Latino and Caribbean Studies (LALACS), and the Institute of Writing and Rhetoric (IWR). She is also a long-serving member of the Committee on Off Campus Activities (COCA).
